T. L. Hart is proud to
have successfully completed a new assembly plant for Tower Automotive.
Contracted in early Spring, with a very tight schedule and corresponding
liquidated damages, T. L. Hart invested close to 1,500 man hours
into the interior and exterior portions of this huge project.
Leading the charge was T. L.
Hart's foreman, Terry Simmons, who, along with a crew ranging
from 4 to 8 painters, finished the job on time and on budget.
Complicating the task was the issue of precast concrete panels,
which were shipped with an unacceptable amount of 'bugholes'
(imperfections in the concrete's surface). These holes required
filling by the concrete panel subcontractor which, combined with
inclement weather, reduced the time frame for completion of the
work. Using special cleaners to clean the concrete of form oils,
Simmons power washed the exterior of the building to prepare
it for coating. The specified paint products for the concrete
substrate was one coat of Benjamin Moore alkyd masonry sealer,
followed by two coats of acrylic flat paint. Accent bands highlighted
the exterior elevations for a sharp looking facility. The non-assembly
portion of the inside of the building was basic drywall construction
totaling about 26,000 square feet, which was primed and painted,
plus hollow metal doors, frames and steel columns, all of which
received two coats of finish. Greenfield Builders of Indianapolis,
Indiana, was the general contractor on the project.
