Industry Standards
T. L. Hart ascribes to
the industry leader, the National Painting and Decorating Contractors
of America. Comprised of over 3,500 painting contractors from
across the country, PDCA exists to serve the interests of the
painting industry with the view to elevate its overall level
of professionalism. One way it does this is
by
the development and distribution of Standards. To date, ten Standards
have been drafted, approved, and adopted since 1992. They are
as follows: PDCA P1-92: "Touch-up Painting and Damage Repair
- Financial Responsibility." PDCA P2-92: "Third Party
Inspection Qualifications and Responsibilities." PDCA P3-93:
"Designation of Paint Colors." PDCA P4-94: "Responsibilities
for Inspection and Acceptance of Surfaces Prior to Painting and
Decorating." PDCA P5-94: Benchmark Sample Procedures for
Paint and other Decorative Coating Systems." PDCA P6-99:
"Acceptance of Completed Wall Covering Installations."
PDCA P7-99: "Job Sequencing." PDCA P8-99: "Owner's
Responsibility for Maintenance of Paints and Coatings."
PDCA P9-99: "Definition of Trade Terms for Bidding Purposes."
PDCA P10-01
"Measurement of Surface Area for Estimating Painting Work."
In addition to the Standards,
PDCA has also published Technical Paper 100: "Responsibilities
and Limitations Regarding Efflorescence in Masonry, Stucco, and
Cementitious Substrates."
It has also published finish
standards for drywall (gypsum board).
