Coatings

Industrial Coatings

Beyond the more typical architectural coatings, T. L. Hart, Inc. applies a wide array of industrial-grade coatings suitable for manufacturing and similar facilities. These types of coatings include various types of epoxies, urethanes and quick-dry ceiling systems that meet the rigorous demands of today’s industrial environments. Further, we are able to apply cementitious waterproofing and other waterproofing sealants and systems, like elastomerics.

Epoxies - There are epoxy coating systems suitable for just about any situation, and T. L. Hart, Inc. can apply them. Listed below are some of the epoxy products we apply.

  • Polyamide - a general, all-purpose, extremely durable coating with applications for ceilings, walls and floors
  • 100% Solids - a ‘high-build’ coating used primarily for floors
  • Self-leveling with quartz additive - a top-of-the-line, aggregate-type floor coating
  • Coal Tar - used mostly in waste water treatment plants and other situations where submersion is a factor
  • Epoxy Mastic - a high solids, self-priming coating that has excellent corrosion resistance properties

Dryfall (Quick-Dry) Ceiling Systems - Studies show that better lighting can improve production output, safety and plant-floor quality inspection, while reducing eyestrain for workers. That’s why work area ceilings should be painted with bright colors that have a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of at least 50 percent. Products specifically made for their LRV qualities and ease of use should be considered for these applications. One such product is Dryfall. Most Dryfall coatings have LRVs ranging from 76 percent to 83 percent, with some as high as 86 percent.

In addition, Dryfall coatings facilitate the painting process because of their unique fast-dry properties. Spray applied, the overspray fall-out dries to a dust usually within eight to ten feet and makes for fast and easy clean-up. Dryfall coatings come both in solvent based and water based formulations. The alkyds tend to be cheaper, but emit fumes in the application and drying process and will yellow and grow brittle with time. The water based products, though more expensive, eliminate the problem of odor and retain their LRV for a longer time.

Polyurethane - Great for the industrial maintenance market, these products possess tenacious adhesion and excellent appearance. They are abrasion resistant, usually rust-inhibitive and great for steel, block or masonry, and floors.

Moisture Cure Products - These are paints that rely on atmospheric and surface moisture to form solid paint films. They are ideal for damp surfaces and low temperature applications. Moisture-cure urethane may be applied in humidity up to 99% with no dew point restrictions. They come in clear or tintable colors. Applications include structural steel, pipes, cold storage areas, hollow metal and wet areas of plants and buildings. Clear moisture-cures are also ideal for coating properly prepared concrete floors.

Waterproofing Systems - T. L. Hart applies numerous waterproofing systems, including clear sealers to those with colored top coats to elastomerics. In short, T. L. Hart can waterproof your building.

Elastomeric - Elastomeric products are heavy rubber coatings that are designed to waterproof and decorate exterior surfaces like masonry. They are extremely flexible (up to 300% elongation) and typically do not chalk.

Aliphatic Urethane - These products are high performance acrylic coatings which provide outstanding gloss and color retention, plus excellent abrasion, and chemical and solvent resistance. They are some of the hardest and most durable coatings on the market. They equal the performance of baked-on finishes and can be used on metal buildings, chemical plants, structural supports, heavy equipment, floors or other surfaces where maximum chemical, solvent and weather resistance is demanded.

Floor Coating

T. L. Hart applies multiple types of floor coatings, from basic clear sealers to self-leveling 100% solid epoxies impregnated with quartz flakes. Floors are ground down or shot-blasted to remove old coating and / or to provide tooth for proper adhesion of new coating. Coating types depend on usage and customer preference.

Types of finishes include:

Clear Sealers - Available in a variety of types and bases, these coatings are typically applied for dust control and to facilitate cleaning. And, depending on type, they can require little-to-no floor preparation or up to and including shot-blasting.

Urethanes - These are colored paints and are generally applied to general, low-use floors in non-industrial settings.

Moisture Cured Urethanes - These products use moisture in the air as a curing agent and convert to a tough finish suitable for heavy traffic. They provide excellent abrasion resistance and good chemical resistance and are often applied as a clear top coat over other coatings.

Polyamide Epoxy - Available in both solvent and waterborne formulations, polyamides represent the ‘good’ coating option for general to low-usage situations. Epoxies are designed for good impact and abrasion resistance and are resistant to chemical and acid attack. Certain types may also be used for immersion service in fresh or salt water.

100% Solids Epoxy - These products represent the best option for heavy-use environments. Depending on the manufacturer they are typically designed for a one coat application over a sealer and can produce a 15 to 20mm thick finish. They are widely used for interior floors that are subject to heavy traffic, industrial chemicals and high abrasion.

Anti-slip and decorative resurfacers - These are the most expensive options for floors and applications. They are mainly used in situations where resurfacing is required due to damaged or worn-down concrete, environments where an anti-slip surface is required, or where an aesthetic, high-build coating is desired.
